My Story

In Acoyo, Gulu district, five-year-old Bilal Kulusum with bright eyes and a big smile lived happily until tragedy hit. One day, Kulusum’s parents took a trip to Masindi for a wedding, a trip from which they never returned. A terrible accident claimed their lives along with many others, sending the village into deep mourning.

In this challenging time, Kulusum's Aunt Aciro Vicky stepped in. Vicky, a pillar of strength, took Kulusum into her home, ensuring she felt loved despite the enormous loss. Starting kindergarten, Kulusum missed her parents. She faced questions from classmates about their absence, leading to countless tear-filled nights. Vicky tried her best to comfort her, explaining the concept of loss, telling Kulusum her parents watched over her.

Kulusum's school performance waned, her mind often occupied with memories of her parents. Vicky enlisted the school counselors to help, aiming to restore Kulusum’s spirit and focus.

With Vicky's tireless support, Kulusum gradually began to heal and adapt to her new life. She made friends, her laughter returned, and she showed remarkable resilience, growing stronger each day.
